Cob curing the dope.

Post by Marcus »

Hi :bye:

A few months ago I cob cured (or fermented) a tent full of dope and kept all my 12 fingers crossed that it worked.

Well, it did and it does. :oik!:

There's a fair bit of info on a couple of other boards detailing the process, so I thought I'd let you lot know how I did it on here.

I cut down my plants and hung em for 24 hours in the tent, most of the leaves left on bar the bigger fans. Then i chopped it off the stalks and got myself a sushi rolling mat and a square of parchment paper ready. Slung an ounce in and away we went.

Rolled it tight, then tighter still and tied it up with a bit of string so as to keep it tight. Then I vacuum sealed it.

I then sweated them for 24 hours at 40*C. I used a food dehydrator set at 40*C. Pop some fruit in there if you have any spare room, pineapple rings are nice dehydrated..

When the vac bag is swollen and sweaty the next day, open her up and dry the outside off with a bit of kitchen roll.

Image

If it ain't visibly sweaty, leave it in for another few hours (your dope may have been too dry going into the vac bag though, so wetter next time)

So, outside dry and left to air while you sort the others, then vac pack them all again...

Image

And pop them in a TIT... A tub in tub waterbath or something you can keep at around 25/30*C.

Image

Bottom tub is full of water with a fish tank heater in and the top tub has the dope wrapped in a few towels in to spread the heat. Needs a bit of fettling and a weight on top to keep the bugger submerged.

Leave them alone for 7 days, then open them up and dry the outside with tissue and then air dry them for a bit.

I popped them in the dehydrator on high for an hour... I know it goes against the slow and low, but it works and saves me a day of trying to air dry them and stinking the whole street up. Then I resealed them in fresh vac bags and left them at room temp.

At this point though, you can dry them for a few days and start the cure, but I just cracked them out of the vac bags every 5 days and dried them a little at a time.

After 4 weeks of slowly stopping the ferment and slowly bringing on the cure, I dried them fully and then vac packed them for a nice 3 month cure.

It's like a crumbly tobacco texture...

I've been vaping it - I can just keep on hitting it and stirring... smoking it in pure joints - yeah, they last me 3 evenings and are smooth as silk, no coughing... and I've chewed it a few times - an acquired texture, not a fan but it does give me a nice buzz and I can spit the spent chewed stuff into a mug of tea and go on a little journey for a few hours. :bye:

That was 8th Jan when I started this process and the stuff is just getting better by the day. (and I may have forgotten bits of how I did it, but I will update if I remember)

Still a work in progress really, but I'm sure as shit going to be fermenting a few ounce every harvest from now on.

Take it easy folks!

Mad shit! I woke up this morning thinking "wonder what happened to Marcus and his COB experiment. Glad it worked out alright. Sounds lovely but I won't be trying it. I guarantee I'll mess it up.
