How Ultraviolet light affects plants - Bruce Bugbee

Post by seymore_budz »

Nice video explaining how UV affects plants by the great Bruce Bugbee. You may of seen these UVA LED boards being sold by a few manufacturers like Invisible Sun. This video sheds some light on the subject.

Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.

I'm using a uvb fluorescent light at the moment.
You can soon fry the plants is you get trigger happy like I did 😅
Apart from that incident I'm impressed with the results.

Hey @Treetrunk,

I'm about to run a little experiment with some CFL UVB reptile bulbs. Can I ask how much light you running and what seems to be the threshold? Any information gratefully received.

This is the light I'm using.
They kick out a bit more than a reptile lamp.
I use it for the last 3 weeks of flowering. On for 2 hours mid light cycle.
Happy with it so far.
Agromax do a T5 bulb that's supposed to be good.
Whatever you choose don't use plastic coated reflector's as they absorb the UV.

Awesome guys, I have 4 X CFLs. They are kind of lower powered but I only need a little from what I understand. I have 2 X medium ones and 2 X high power ones. Here is the data from the medium potency ones. I'm picking up the higher output ones tomorrow.

Salutations,

Although i do appreciate the YouTube entries of Bruce Bugbee i'm increasingly less present on-line, so there's a lot that won't fill the hobby time anymore, unfortunately. In days before home-growing got further criminalized in my canuck province the Ultra-Violet subject would have made me read & watch all of it, with special curiosity evoked by IPM concepts meant to deter infestation by nuisible insects as "The Borg". The reasoning was that such little critters would possibly avoid UVA in fear of the more harmful UVB... In any case i did acquire 1 reptile bulb but never went as far as to reach firm conclusions, except i'd want to "chop UVB light periods" to implement "Pulse" mode exposure via timer, to prevent hurting vegetal life and yet simultaneously render my cultivation space even less inviting to parasites. But that was in another life.

Good day, have fun!! Image
