diy alcohol reclaim condenser how to thread

Post by duke »

hi all a few simple pages show how to build your own reclaim condenser, a valuable tool for anyone who makes a lot of cannabis oil via alcohol extraction and wants to save money and the environment.

not to mention being far safer than any open to air extraction could be,

i shall keep it as simple as i can and tbh most of you could do this easy and probs neater than me as you need to bare in mind ive only 1 good working hand so my cutting out etc aint the neatest, but it all works great in the end.

first of i shall start with the vessel or in our case 1ltr glass screwtop kilner preserve jar and a few fittings as listed below this is the type we need
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kilner-Screw ... 1778007717

Image

ebay link https://www.ebay.co....ss/181778007717

some 8mm i.d neoprene fuel hose https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RUBBER-REINF ... 1402090495
Image

hose clips x 6 (this is pack 10) https://www.ebay.co....ar=550651006716

2x 8mm connector/adaptor order 2 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313612080561 ... %3A2334524
Image
aka barbed connector

neoprene sealing rings buy 10 for spares https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M8-8mm-THICK ... 0084338302

3mtr of 8mm o.d copper pipe (specify size on order) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281263096964 ... Swt-Bds-jB
copper coil Image

1x 20ltr water container https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254773226264 ... Sw32VeqDXl
Image

water resistant insulation this stops your ice melting as fast and keeps water chilled
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303368335927 ... %3A2334524
thats basic list of parts, note this is a large condenser due to my need but both size of coil and container can be reduced for smaller rig.

tools needed

screwdriver

13mm spanner

pliers

8mm hss drill bit

power drill

file

pipe cutter or junior hacksaw

pipe benders of you have weak hands like mine

a small butane blowtorch can be handy for heating and bending but not essential

a roll of wide gorilla tape

a tuperware or similar container to serve as the stand for condenser (stronger the better and you may need to add some ballast)

a pair of oven gloves or welders mitts if using heat to do bending of pipe or you will burn your hands(ask how i know!)

STEP 1

take kilner jar lid and drill 8mm hole using hss drill bit and gentle pressure so as not to distort metal or seal as pic below

Image

next take your bulkhead fitting adaptor 8mm and pass through the lid as shown below
Image
ImageImage

next add a short length of your fuel hose and clips to top of jar lid as below

Image

now the lid just srews on tight as below, finished solvent vessel, simple aye?

Image

next we need to build the condenser itself this is simple coils and a usable straight length both end 1 for the solvent vessel connection and other to join the coil to the container lid as shown in pic below

Image

right next we need to make the coil pictured below is the coil in position and my trusty tape measure so you can see rough size of hole in the container and the rough diameter of the coils though this is not crucial and as long as all the coils run downhill it will work if you have access to pipe benders you may find it easier but bending by hand is possible for the stronger folk,
ImageImageImage

not me sadly! so now we connect coil to the adaptor shown in pic and attached to the lid using 2 hoseclips and short length of the fuel hose. see below

Image
Image

fix the coil in 2 places in the top of the container using strong heatproof steel wire i used the type sold on a roll for jewelery making.

now all you need do is attach your condenser container to the stand as said this should be about 9 inches tall to allow the jug under to catch returned isopropyl all cool clean and ready for reuse!see pic below
Image

note the kilner jar lids do not last forever but can be bought seperate. https://www.ebay.co....D4AAOSwWHpgvFp8 i have a drawer full!

i hope that is understandable and inspires one person to build there own condenser, peace
heres a few pics from last oil run yesterday,

i do hope this makes some sense its took me hours today doing this!peace :bye:

You are the man Duke. I had no idea about this and I only make and use RSO these days. I'll be building one of these. Thank you for sharing 👊

hi imo its def one of the best investments ive made and saves me a literal fortune in isopropyl costs and ive gone from buying about 100ltrs a year to about 10ltrs a year! it also works well using other solvents i have used acetone and everclear and spyritus all work just as well,i bought a commercial made condenser via an online vendor it was expensive and had to come from hong kong took over 100 days to arrive and first time i used it i found it leaked like a sieve at all the poorly soldered joints was over complicated so i had a brainfart of a simple method and came up with this which ive now been regularly using since 2015 ish and must have saved me many £s by now, though im still skint! peace :puff puff:

hi all well today is oil run day so the old faithful condenser has been dragged out of storage in my shed and is currently running 2ltrs of iso solvent hopefully heavily laden with cannabis oil, this time i decided to time how long it takes to evap and collect a ltr of iso solvent ready for reuse, the solvent hit 87c at exactly 4 pm the start of evaporation and i shall report with some pics later when im done oiling, this is a mercy run for a friend of a friend who is suffering from the symptoms of cancer treatment and cannot stomach the pharma anti nausea pills, ironic they make him sicker? :idn: but last week i gave them a few of the biobombs i make for my tina and they had a week without being sick  ,laters. :oik!: :bye:

hi jimmi many moons ago i did purchase similar item from ebay seller in hong kong and it was a pile of crap badly soldered and leaked like a sieve! after many attempts at resoldering ,many messagesback and forward to seller i got a partial refund and the thing is now sat in my shed with the scrap metal  so id be wary buying again and rather trust my own handiwork and save money so just be careful as its not a thing to have go wrong esp in your home,i shall post the pics from last nights run later today, cheers :bye:
