Treating your water

I started out growing DWC and using R/O water. I hated seeing the waste water down the drain and capturing the runoff and using on shrubs was a pain in the butt. After I switched to Hempy Buckets I decided to forgo the filtering. My water is actually pretty good. I average between 30 and 35 ppm at 7.1ph from the tap. I haven't seen any detriments to my grows from skipping that step.

I also adjust the temperature of the water before using. I'll adjust it up or down, depending on season and shoot for 70F (21C). If I'm adding silicon I will do it at night and let sit to morning before adding the rest of my nutrients.

The only thing I haven't done is aerate the water to facilitate off gassing the chlorine. My question is, is this step beneficial or wasting time? I have the air pump, tubing & stones already. I checked my local water report and the chlorine is average .4 ppm. I've heard answers from "that it isn't a problem" to aerate for 24 hours.

I'm always looking to up my grow "fu". But I'm not interested in trying to pick fly shit out of the black pepper.

Be honest with you I get water straight from tap and mix and feed. I don’t have a res at all. I prob should but it’s always just been easier for me to go straight from tap to plant.

I don`t bother letting my tap water sit 24/7 these days and haven`t for years and i never see any detrimental effects to plant. TBH i think way your growing the little chlorine that is left in water will actually help keep the hydroponic set up sterile and free from any nasties raising their ugly heads, tis prolly more beneficial than not with those little amounts in your water, but that's just my opinion. Your tap water at 35ppm is bang on Grumpy, tis virtually soft water.

I think the 24 hours is for chlorine but most water companies use chloramine (spelt wrong) instead which doesnt gass off and needs to be bound up by something like a vit C ascorbic acid

I don't think they use chloramine in itself which is more a by product of them using chlorine and ammonia which then ceates a reaction or whatever it does in water pipes on way to your house to create chloramine, pretty sure its not added. I might be tripping though but last a looked a few years or so back that's how it was.

Love the extra info so I did a quick Googley And yeah your correct. Chloramine is created when they add ammonia and chlorine to the water. It then forms disinfectants called chloramines which last longer in the piping system
