A very detailed and interesting study around photoperiod. The difference between 12/12 and 13/11 is crazy!
TL;DR version. Two cultivars were grown under 12/12 and 13/11 photoperiods. The results were both plants produced significantly more weight while either having no change or enhanced levels of secondary metabolites.

Lol maybe some cultivars would prefer that. Personally, if I was running seeds and different strains, I would stick to 12/12. I feel like playing with photoperiod could be the key to unlocking the full potential of a cultivar.
More for commercial growers trying to squeeze every £ they can out of their operation.

Re: Is 12/12 really optimal for Cannabis?
Its been 12/12 since those Egyptians invented it when they borrowed a genni and HPS light from those aliens who built the pyramids. Seriously though its been 12/12 since peeps started growing indoors with lights for a reason, cus its best and optimal flowering hours for bloom. I`m sure everyone has tried different lighting schedules for bloom since the early days of indoor growing from "pro" growers to percy growers and if any other light schedule was better well im pretty sure it would have caught on and peeps would be switching to it, i mean ive tried them and go back to 12/12 cus as far as my knowledge goes i didnt notice any difference. Basically its 12/12 for those reasons.

Re: Is 12/12 really optimal for Cannabis?
I generally start at 12/12 for the first two weeks to reduce stretch. Then I’m off to 11/13 until the end. Most of the time I think it has to do with Penny, pinching and cash cropping. Definitely strain specific results.seymore_budz wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 7:11 amLol maybe some cultivars would prefer that. increasing the photoperiod during the flowering stage of indoor cannabis culti-vation is an easily employed cultivation protocol for enhancing indoor cannabis production

So i just read the link, tis a very interesting read. Makes me wonder why all growers aren't using those lighting hours if that's case. We are daft not to be really.

Re: Is 12/12 really optimal for Cannabis?
I think knowing the heritage of the cultivar and would make this more applicable. Some cultivars may not like it at all. It's also worth noting that a longer daylight also delayed the onset of flowers and extended the flowering period.
As a stoner that doesn't really care about growing ginormous crops, 12/12 is good enough. If I was a commercial grower focused on ROI, this would definitely be something I played with.
