Also a dog person and from the other side of the world, but my German Shepherd and cat have it worked out. She (the dog) gets along great with the male cat and have become play friends. Although Gunny the cat, still thinks he's the boss, they play together and we have not seen a mouse in 2 years. Give a feline a chance to buddy up with the dog and the reign to go to the problem area. Dog happy, cat happy, grow happier!
