Kill Em All! Tiny Flies That Is....

Post by MrBill »

Each spring/early summer, we get tiny flies, gnats, no-seeums or whatever you call em, in the kitchen. They are annoying if nothing else.
A couple years ago I found, online, an easy way to get rid of them.

Why post it here?

After my last grow I had no insects at all. The pots sat and soil dried out.
Went to reuse them a couple weeks later and watered them to soften up for replanting the next day. Checked for new growth a couple days later and saw the dampened soil was crawling with tiny flies. So I tried the same method we use in the kitchen when they appear.
WORKED GREAT!
A couple weeks later they were all gone and the cycle broken. It's been 2 weeks past that and still no sign of any bugs.

Try this before using any insecticides, it works. Dead flies in the video floating around in the bottom of the bottle.

I use a 20 oz (that's a 591 ml size for metric users) clean, empty plastic Gatorade bottle. Pour about 3 inches (about 7 cm) of apple cider vinegar in and then drop 4 or 5 drops of liquid dish soap in and set in between plants. Dish soap acts as a surfactant and allows the smallest of insects to break through the surface tention of the vinegar and drown.

"Normal" is not a goal. It is a level to be surpassed on the way to "memorable". :Stoned:
:puff puff: (UNLESS of course, the goal is NORML)
