Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Whilst we're on this topic...do you chaps do the stem bend test and then jar if it snaps? Or is that too dry?

Just checked in on one of the harvest plants..the outer part of the bud feels very dry however the stems attached to the buds aren't snapping, just bending and same with the longer part of them stem I've hung it from. Have I over dried when my bud feels almost brittle (its not) but it is dry. Hope I've not screwed this up.

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Hi @wutang
It's very tempting but them buds will still be too wet.
Wait until most of your twig's and branches snap.
Have you got jars ready?
You can't have long to wait.

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Im just a bit scared as the buds feel dry and crispyish on the outside...is that normal?
Its the 9th day today since chop and hung them upside down by major branches for dry trim.
Temps between 15 - 18c
Humidity has been on average around 55%

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
@Treetrunk sorry yeah jars are ready, trim bins ready :)
Have you ever had the bud dry on the outaide and stem still bendy, but when cured it was good and moisture was back in the bud?

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
@Treetrunk as in you wouldn't jar them yet and wait until the stem actually makes a snap ans breaks off nicely?

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
I find outside feels drier than center. This lead me to jar too early. Wait fir snap the residual moistness sorts the outside crisp in the jar.

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Thank you @Point 5 ..extra cautious this time around. Last couple of nighta humidity dropped to around 40% coz of the cold weather. During the day its around 50ish again.

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
So last night i got a bir para so i took off a big nug and couple of small ones. As soon as i closed the jar humidity went from 55 to 58% then overnight it was at 60% in the morning.
I think they are ready for the jar even though stems arent fully snapping. There was only one bud that snapped off out of the entire chop last night.
The jar is a 1l kilner jar. With the nugs its less than 1/4 full.
One thing I noticed when I opened the jar first thing in the morning was a strong non weed smell...I'm not sure if its amonia like, as I don't remember ever smelling amonia
but I think its what most people desribe? Theres no mould?
After 15minutes the mrs complained and asked whether I had opened anything as it stank
it doesn't smell as bad anymore like the initial smell...is this normal? And I am starting to smell a hint of the dank erb
Any thoughts on whether they are ready to jar and the smell?

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Just to add..after the first burp in the morning..I left it open for about 30mins then shut it. It has been at 58% for the last 2 or 3 hours

Re: Drying Temps and Humidity?
Your rh in jar is sitting right.
My buds go through a few different smells before they settle to the lovely weedy smell.
